“I first discovered the Isla Vista Food Co-op midway through my freshmen year at UCSB. Walking through the front door, I was hit by the familiar “health-food smell“ of bulk spices and fresh produce. I felt at home. My next thought was: How can I be a part of this? Later that week I applied for a cashier position. Now I manage the deli department, making fresh kale salad and hummus, both consumed in mass amounts by the student body. This little independent cooperative is truly a resource to Isla Vista, and there is nothing else like it in Santa Barbara!” – Madia Jamgochian, Co-op Kitchen Manager & In-House Nutrition Educator
